Introducing Men4Men.com: A Community for Clayton (And Everyone Else!)
It was an especially dark and cold day in rural Michigan for Clayton, a young man who was struggling with his sexuality and relationships. His troubles caught the eye of a high school teacher who asked “What’s wrong?”
“You wouldn’t understand.”
“It’s about your boyfriend, isn’t it?” Much to Clayton’s surprise, the teacher did understand! “You know,” she continued, “my oldest son is gay, and he has been in a relationship for over twenty years. So I am sure, whatever it is, you can work it out.” Her words helped the young man through his troubles, but later she said “I wish there was a web site I could send him to where he could learn about being gay from people in the community – a safe place that is not just about sex and hook-ups.” Men4Men.com is just such a place, dedicated to Clayton, and men and women of all ages who struggle to find their place in a confusing and often unfriendly world.
Established in 1998 as a local online support group, Men4Men seeks to expand our mission to serve the community as a whole, first nationally and then internationally, beginning with the question “What do you wish someone had told you about being gay?” Advice from Dr. Know and Ask Amanda along with news and information will anchor Men4Men Magazine, and our new social network is being set up like FaceBook, so people can share information easily across the wider community, and not just log in to a private “little black book” like so many other gay oriented sites.
Men4Men follows the General Internet Audience guidelines for content, which means sex and sexuality are discussed in an academic manner, along with health, culture, travel, education, marriage, adoption, workplace discrimination and the myriad of issues that all men face as part of life. While our site does provide links to sexually explicit sites, such information will only be accessible to visitors who have established their legal age to be over 18.
The gay community has lost almost an entire generation to HIV, leaving a gap where there would usually be a support structure. The voices of mature, experienced and wizened adults are fewer than they should be. Men4Men.com is working to remedy this scarcity of guidance and example by providing online and real-world forums and venues for men and women of all ages to connect and learn.
Your contribution will assist us in publishing this resource, maintaining the social network and coordinating discussion groups and lectures across the country, encouraging community interaction and support.
EDUCATION, SCHOLARSHIPS & GRANTS
Make a donation to the education fund to support expert-authored information with the real facts about science, law, history and the arts. Support our discussion groups in cities around the country (world) and our Scholarship Fund for men who have been shunned by their biological families and require assistance for a college degree or research project. Education is power, information is king!
AIDS QUOTES (Names and quotes or stories)
Make a donation in memory of a loved one who died of HIV-related illness. We will add their name to our AIDS QUOTES and as that list grows all will be able to see just how many of our friends, lovers and family members were taken from us, honoring them for all they gave us and sharing remembrances of their wisdom as inspiration for all of us still today and into the future. Let their words, or your own, celebrate the best of lives that were far too short. Not Just Names: The AIDS QUOTES
IN MEMORY
Make a donation in memory of a loved one who was murdered for being gay, or perhaps took their own life. The information and community your support provides might help change the attitude in even one individual person and could save a life or lives! If people know they are not alone, that there IS help and a community, being gay can be easier on individuals and society as a whole.
